dc.description.abstract The central focus of this study was to determine the Relationship among Locus of control, Attitude to schools and Academic success or failure of senior secondary schools in Sokoto South Senatorial District of Sokoto State. The population of the study consisted of all the 21 public schools in the study area, simple random sampling and stratified random sampling were used to select 357 respondents with the aid of Krejcie and Morgan (1970) table for determining sample size. Four research questions, four objectives and four hypotheses were generated. The research design is a descriptive and correlational, using adopted version self-other motivation scale developed by Tambawal (2000), Adopted version of Attitude to School (ATS) designed by Guidance and Counselling unit Federal Ministry of Education, self-constructed test in English and Mathematics. The data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and Multiple regression. The result of the study showed that attitude to school is more related to student’s academic success or failure than locus of control. Implications for counselling was discussed in which deliverable models were highlighted. Amongst the recommendations of this study that strong and deliberate policy should be put in place by Sokoto State Government for the establishment of full pledge and functioned Guidance and Counselling centers in all secondary schools in the State, test and non-techniques for identification of students in various schools should be made available in our schools. en_US
