dc.description.abstract The paper traces the genesis of teacher education in Nigeria and points out the pivotal role of teacher education as the arrow head of a sustainable and functional education needed for the development of a nation. It also looked into the challenges of teacher education for sustainable development such as in adequate quality of staff, and the profounded way forward is for the government to provide regular training and retraining opportunities for teachers. en_US
