dc.description.abstract This paper examines the Millennium Development Goal number Seven, which is on ensuring Environmental Sustainability. The main thrust of this paper is to examine the role of education in ensuring environmental sustainability in Nigeria. The concept of environmental sustainability, the need and value of sustainable human environment were examined. Challenges facing efforts to ensure environmental sustainability were identified, which include deforestation, ignorance, poverty and emission of gases by industrial activities among others. Lastly, the paper recommends that government should use institutions and agencies as mechanisms for environmental protection and sustainability. This would be achieved, the paper concludes, by making all educational institutions to adopt environmental education as a compulsory subject at the various levels of our education system. en_US
