The study used descriptive survey research design to investigate gender differences in adjustment
to challe11ges of retirement among retirees in Sokoto Stale. 145 participants consisting of 85 male
and 60 female retirees were proportionately selected from 14,500 registered retirees with the
Nigerim, Union of Pensioners, Sokoto State. A fifteen item scale entitled Gender Difference in
Adjustment to Retirement Scale (GDARS) was used lo collect data. Data collected was analysed
using chi-square statistics. It was discovered t/raJ there ll'as significant difference in the levels of
adjustment between male 011d female retirees iii Sokoto State in the areas of reduction in income,
d1m1ging roles and c/1m1ging relaJionship with the female retirees adjusting bener than the male
retirees. The implication of the findings to ,w n-fomwl education provisions in Nigeria is that
adjustment to the clraJ/enges of retirees is 1101 lwmogenous; therefore, non-fonnal educators
